Event: Dealing with Health & Safety Regulators

£249.00 Bookings » 21 Sep 2010

Venue: Belper/Hazlewood Organisation: Lubrizol

Meeting Theme – The way we deal with Regulators, particularly when they come to visit, can dramatically effect the way in which they progress any investigation and ultimately enforcement action. Knowing what they can, and can't do (although this isn't all that much!), should mean a visit can be as much about educating the regulator and showing all your strong points as well as dealing with their requests and investigation.

Venue: Lubrizol, Belper/Hazlewood

Host: Stephen Unwin

Agenda:

09:30 hrs Coffee & Registration

10:00 hrs Meeting Opening Session

Morning Topic – Health & Safety Regulators and Their Powers?

10:10 hrs Caroline Steel - Guest Speaker from Shoosmiths

The session identifies the regulators and their powers together with when and why they can visit your premises. It will also cover how to prepare for a regulator visit and who should be involved. The presentation will finally look at how to deal with the visit and any follow-up.

11:30 hrs Discussion on the first session & experiences of attendees

Come prepared with your own examples or comment on what you have heard.

12:30 hrs LUNCH

Afternoon Topic - The Penalties of Transgression

13:00 hrs Caroline Steel - Guest Speaker from Shoosmiths

This short session will cover examples of the problems found by regulators and the ways that these problems were handled – good & bad. The lessons we can learn from this will tie up with the best practice described from the morning session.

13: 45 hrs Discussion on the afternoon's topic

The audience will contain visitors who have experiences of regulatory visits and also members/visitors who have been a regulator visiting a problem or even routine visit. The feedback should be illuminating and link nicely with the best practice identified in the presentations.

Experiences of Attendees

14:30 hrs Open discussion on experiences of members & guests on both topics.

Example problems. What procedures need to be in place? What are the pitfalls?

15:15 hrs Future Planned Meetings & Feedback on improvements. Close 15:40

In view of the busy schedule, refreshments will be available throughout the morning & afternoon sessions on a help yourself basis
