Most people predicted that a recession would lead to the demise of green and ethical corporate activity. It is becoming increasingly evident that they were wrong. Leading companies are more active in this field than ever – looking both to realising immediate savings and thinking ahead about their long-term success. A recent article in the FT told the stories of companies such as Wal-Mart, Mars, Cadbury’s, Sainsbury’s and M&S keeping their commitment strong. All of them made it quite clear their work on green and ethical issues delivered both immediate business benefits and, crucially, enhanced prospects of future success.
The Best Practice Club and Forum for the Future are delighted to be joining forces with John Laing to share experiences and tips for how companies can win in all three areas of going green, cutting costs and being fit for the future. Forum for the Future is a leading sustainable development charity that has been working in close partnerships with business for 13 years to deliver practical sustainable business solutions.
Sally Uren, deputy CEO of Forum for the Future, will take us through why sustainability makes sense in a recession and provide the group with hard-hitting arguments and examples to help them drive progress back in their own companies. Martin Jameson, Engineering Manager from John Laing will share the approach his company took and the real benefits they now see flowing from being green.
With a focus on practical action, this workshop will give plenty of opportunity to network, share experiences with the other participants and start planning your own actions. At the end of the workshop you will leave with a first draft of immediate actions you can take once back in the office.
